Red Cross Swim Lessons
The Community Recreation Association will be offering the Red Cross Swim Program for children & adults beginning the week of January 4th.

Lessons are held:
Mondays, 11:00am - 12:00pm*
Tuesdays, 4:30 - 8:30pm
Wednesdays, 11:00am - 12:00pm*
Thursdays, 4:30 - 8:30pm
Saturdays, 8:30am to 1:00pm
Sundays, 8:30am to 1:00pm*
*NEW - Parent and Tot/Preschool lessons only

Registration
8 Wing Community
Monday 14 December from 4 to 6 pm at the RecPlex. Numbers for service will be handed out beginning at 3:00 pm at the RecPlex.

Military community
Will continue until 3 pm on Monday December 21st at the RecPlex. Please note that no registration will take place after 3pm on December 21st.

General Public
Monday December 21st from 5 to 7 pm at the RecPlex. Numbers for service will be handed out beginning at 4 pm. Registration for all continues at the RecPlex, until the start of lessons, according to the Recreation Association hours of operation.

Bronze Medallion & Emergency First Aid
Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. It is the first step towards a National Lifeguard Certification and is a prerequisite for the Bronze Cross Award.

National Lifeguard Service (NLS)
National Lifeguard is Canadas only nationally recognized lifeguard certification program. National Lifeguard is a legal certificate for lifeguarding throughout the country, and the only lifeguard certificate recognized by the province of Ontario. Candidates must be 16 years old to register and must have completed the Bronze Cross Course and Standard First Aid & CPR C.

Fridays, Feb 26th & Mar 5th: 5:00-9:00pm
Saturdays, Feb 27th & Mar 6th: 9:00am-6:00pm
Sundays, Feb 28th & Mar 7th: 9:00am-5:00pm

Must show proof of Bronze Cross and current Standard First Aid and CPR.
Must be 16 years of age.

NLS Re-certification
The National Lifeguard Service certifications must be re-certified every two years. The CRA offers periodic re-certification courses throughout the year.

Bronze Cross & Standard First Aid
Emphasis is placed on the candidates ability to respond to a variety of aquatic emergencies using principles of teamwork & emergency procedures. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for NLS.

Tri Aquatic Training
Are you a swimmer who has the basics of a swimming workout figured out and wants to get better, but once you get in the pool to get a workout started, you feel a little lost? No coach to write a workout for you? Or maybe you are a swimmer stuck in a workout rut, always doing the same workout, week after week, and want to try something different? This program is designed for swimmers looking to become faster and more efficient in the water. Whether you have an upcoming competition such as a triathlon, or you feel like you swim over and over again but youre just not getting any better. Under the guidance of a Level 2 competitive swimming coach with 2 year coaching experience, you will be given stroke correction tips and a workout designed to meet your specific goal(s).

Standard First Aid / CPR C
The 16-hour Standard First Aid course provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR. This course is for those who want an in-depth understanding of first aid such as; medical/legal aspects, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries, burns, and medical emergencies.

Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid is recognized by the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board and the Ontario Health Regulation and is one of the prerequisites to NLS.

Important SFA Information
Recertification Procedure
Standard First Aid (SFA) award holders may recertify their Lifesaving Society SFA certification just once on a Lifesaving Society SFA Recertification Course not more than three years from the SFA date of issue. To renew SFA certifications subsequently, award holders must repeat the full SFA Course. Thereafter, individuals may renew by alternating recertifications and original courses.
Holders of Standard First Aid certificates from other agencies may not recertify their certificate on a Lifesaving Society recertification course. They may recertify only with the original certifying agency.

Standard First Aid / CPR C Recert
The 8-hour Standard First Aid recertification course provides a review of first aid and CPR skills. Practical skills will be assessed through scenarios and knowledge will be assessed with a written evaluation. Candidates should review the course content and practice their skills prior to the recertification course. Candidates must bring proof of original certification.

Thursday March 4th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Snorkeling
There is more to snorkeling than you think! A 3 hour snorkel lesson can teach you the basic snorkel skills and help you become familiar with snorkel equipment. This certification course will consist of 1.5 hrs in the classroom and 1.5 hrs in the pool. A snorkel lesson is also a great way to prepare your self for a tropical vacation. You don't want to be jumping off a boat and getting a mouth full of water instead of a view of the colorful fish!

Families are encouraged to join this class. Kids must be 8 years of age or older, and need to be able to swim 50 meter of the pool.

Feel free to bring your own equipment (mask, snorkel, fins) or borrow ours.

Red Cross Assistant Water Safety Instructor Course
The Assistant Water Safety Instructor Course is designed to reinforce water safety skills and knowledge and to introduce basic instructional and leadership concepts. Completion of the Assistant Water Safety Instructor Course provides candidates with the basic skills and experience necessary for entering the Water Safety Instructor course.

Candidates will be required to complete 10 hours of volunteer teaching between the first and final date of the course

Red Cross Water Safety Instructors Course
This is a course to prepare candidates to instruct the Water Safety Programs. Candidates experience, analyze and apply the Red Cross Swim Program curriculum. Certified Water Safety Instructors must renew their certification every two years. Pre-requisite: Must be 16 years of age and completed Assistant Water Safety Instructors Course.

This course will be conducted based on demand. Please call the RecPlex Reception at 613-392-2811 ext 3361 to place a name on the Waiting List for this course.
